Guanyin\/Kwan Yin has a long history but is most recently associated with the Chinese pantheon and is depicted as a Goddess or Boddisatva - one who has reached enlightenment but who stays on the Earth plane to help humanity.\u00a0<\/p>
She holds a willow branch and a container of water - suggesting flexibility, strength and purity of spirit.<\/p>
<\/p>
Guan Yin has links with earlier male or androgenous depictions of beings with great spiritual attainment, he is called Avalokitesvara in India. It appears that 'she' became depicted as such due to 'her' dominant qualities being those of the Divine Feminine.\u00a0<\/p>
<\/p>
She is often seen as a manifestation of the Divine Mother, like Mother Mary, and is known by many names such as Tara in Tibet and Mongolia, Guanyin in China and Kunnon in Japan.<\/p>
<\/p>
She can help you find your inner peace by reminding you she believes in you, when you may be struggling to feel that way about yourself. One of her messages is\u00a0<\/p>
\"Compassion starts with the Self\". <\/p>
The willow branch they hold reminds us to be flexible, no matter occurs, it is our response that counts. We are reminded that <\/p>
\"irritation ruins our vibration\" - taking us many realities 'down' back into the chaos we have raised ourselves from, indicated by the root of the lotus which has struggled through the darkness of mud (ignorance, suffering) to break through to the surface, the Light. <\/p>
<\/p>
I observe these shades of pink\/blue around or emanating from him\/her at times during healing work. \u00a0<\/p>
<\/p>
One mantra I find helpful when tuning into this being is \"Om mani padme hum\" roughly translating as \"I Am the jewel within the lotus\" - reminding us we are Beautiful Souls who hold the keys to our lives within ourselves. Our grief & struggles are an integral part of our development - our roots may be in muddy water like that of the lotus\/waterlily - but this is how we eventually manifest our true beauty - becoming as the lotus sitting resplendent upon the surface of the water.<\/p>
