Originally named Auset or Iset, Isis was the ancient Greeks' interpretation of the name of this mother goddess. It should be noted that the spellings are not an issue because the frequency of the name remains the same. She wears the vulture headdress, which is a sign for royal motherhood, meaning the wearer has reached a high level of self-sacrifice, unconditional love and service. Her wings are spread in a gesture of protection and expansion of consciousness.<\/p>

In mythology she gathered the pieces of her husband\/brother Osiris when he was slain by Typhon (Set) & brought him back to life just long enough to conceive a son, usually said to be Horus - Hercules. She & Horus avenged Osiris's death & killed Typhon. Isis is the goddess of unconditional love, protector of children, healer of the sick, goddess of Life and magic. She and Osiris can be understood as soul twins or entwined souls, they are brother and sister in this sense, not in the usual human sense of the relationship.<\/p>
